So I'm back again, I'm sure you all noticed my absence this week, and there really is no great excuse for it, I didn't get swept away on some romantic holiday on a beach somewhere, nor did the end of the world come causing all of the leaders of first world countries to beg me for my assistance. I just took a break from everything for a couple of days. Well almost everything, for some reason no one wanted to have a week long playdate with Miss K so she's been my constant companion this week. And now she has a cold. So she gets the joy of being my constant companion for a little while longer, just with more snot involved.
We actually shared a bed last night, something I haven't done in almost 12 months now, ever since she got too big to be trusted not to nose dive off the edge of my bed. And last night I remembered the best and worst things about sharing a bed with a little one. For one every single noise she made woke me up. Granted every one of those noises was usually her struggling to breathe through her blocked nose, or trying to cough up the gunk filling up her lungs, but I never knew until last night exactly how restless that little girl is. Also she decided that 4:30 this morning was the perfect time to get up and have a play, and refused to believe me when I tried to tell her that it was still night time and she needed to go back to sleep. Then she had the brainwave to try to keep me awake so I could play with her by hitting me in the face with her Elmo teddy over and over again. It was hard to be cross at her for this one however as I was too busy trying to hide my laughter every time his head came into contact with mine. She is such a character.
Today hasn't been too bad considering one of us is nursing a mucus monster inside of her and the other one is running on coffee fumes. We even went up the street, which can be a challenge at the best of times, but when Miss K is unwell it becomes a war. She wasn't impressed at having to be out and about, and she showed her displeasure by crying. The. Whole. Time. It was a relief to finally get home and bundle her into bed this afternoon. But more paracetamol, a drink and being bundled up in front of the telly seems to be keeping her happy for now so I'm just enjoying the calm before the next storm.
Well that's it for now, I really just wanted to let you guys know I'm still here and still thinking of you.

Quick update - Miss K's sleeping habits
So I mentioned the other day here that I was trying to wean Miss K from her night time stirrings this week. Well we are up to day four of my weaning, and so far so good. On Tuesday night things didn't go exactly to plan because my little sister, who isn't entirely aware of what I'm trying to do at the moment brought Miss K into my room as soon as she started screaming at 12:00 in the morning. Given that I hadn't expected her to wake up to Miss K, I hadn't filled her in on my new ignore her and I'll deal with her rule, so I had to take Miss K off her hands and settle her down and try again the next night.
So last night Miss K got up again at 10:00, and was given a drink of water and put straight back into bed. She went back to sleep and all was quiet. Until she woke up again at midnight and expected me to come pick her up and play with her till she got tired again. Luckily my little sister was out last night, so there were no interruptions this time. I got up after a couple of minutes of Miss K's complaining, laid her back down in her bed and turned her mobile on for her. She complained for all of five minutes, and then...there was silence. SUCCESS!!!
So she is hopefully finally getting the message that midnight is no longer play time, and within the next two weeks I am hoping that I won't have to go in and settle her any more. Happy dances all round!

Insert witty title here
Again it's been too long between posts, but this time I have a good reason. I've been trying to write a post about Miss K's hospital stay, but even 12 months after the fact, it's too hard to write about. At first I put off writing it until we hit the 12 month mark just in case I jinxed her and she ended up sick again, but that date came and went, and it was still too hard. Maybe one day I'll be able to tell you guys the story, but right now is not the right time.
Another reason I don't have time to blog much at the moment is that Miss K is so busy these days, and I spend more time than ever chasing her around and keeping her out of trouble. She has such a fearless attitude, which is great in some ways, but in others it means she doesn't see how bad an idea dive bombing off my bed is. I've had to do a mad ninja style dash to the other side of the bed on several occasions now to make sure she doesn't face plant on my floor jackass style.
Tonight we went out to a pub for tea as it was my baby sister's 20th birthday yesterday so the whole family came out for tea, and Miss K had her first pub meal, which was really just some of my pasta and some of grandpa's chips, but she loved it. Unfortunately we had to cut our evening short as Miss K had decided this afternoon she didn't need a nap, as playing with her mobile that hangs over her cot was much more fun, so she was exhausted by the time she had finished her tea. This is something I have come to accept, and as a result I really try to plan most of our outings for while the sun is up, but once in a while the rules have to be bent for special occasions.
It has always surprised me how well Miss K adapts to new foods and drinks. We swapped to normal cow's milk last week, and she's taken to it better than I expected. Especially since I was lactose intolerant as a baby and couldn't seem to keep the stuff down, and even now days the only time I drink milk is in my coffee.
As for me, my eyes are hanging out of my head as I type this, so I'm going to bed for hopefully a nice long sleep. I'll leave you now with a picture my sister took of Miss K "sleeping" this afternoon.
